JEREMJEVITE

This oil painting on canvas presents an imagined icy environment structured around monumental dark blue crystal formations inspired by the morphology of tourmaline and jeremejevite minerals. Part of an ongoing exploration of speculative planetary landscapes, the work examines the relationship between crystalline geology, frozen terrains, and atmospheric spatial construction. The intention behind using crystals as inspiration to derive entire geological environments, is the idea that crystals are a fractal of what is happening at a larger universal scale in the planetary bodies, they can function as portals and evocations of the diversity happening in other solar systems. Not to mention how they resemble tiny landscapes in and of themselves.

The composition is built through sharp mineral structures emerging from a snow-covered environment, where the crystals function simultaneously as geological formations and architectural presences within the landscape. Their angular verticality contrasts with the softness and erosion patterns of the surrounding icy terrain, creating a dialogue between rigidity and fluid environmental transformation.

Drawing from the internal structures and chromatic qualities of natural crystal formations, the painting translates mineralogical observation into a speculative planetary context. The dominant blue tonalities reinforce the sensation of coldness, isolation, and atmospheric density, while also emphasizing the reflective and translucent qualities associated with crystalline matter.

Rather than depicting a realistic location, the work operates as a morphological study of mineral environments and alternative geologies, investigating how crystal growth, erosion, and frozen atmospheres can generate landscapes that appear both extraterrestrial and materially believable. Through the use of oil paint and layered surface textures, the painting explores the continuity between geological process, abstraction, and cosmic spatial imagination.
